Oggi è il 14 febbraio il giorno di San Valentino, il cioccolato scorre a fiumi tra gli amanti avvolti nella loro nuvola d’amore.
E allora miei cari “VALENTINI”, amanti del Grande Boxe, anche perché quella piccola non esiste, infatti non c’è niente sportivamente di più brutto, che un brutto match di boxe. Dunque assicuratevi che i protagonisti siano all’altezza, se volete assistere ad un gran bel incontro.
Sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ è stato senza dubbio uno dei grandi protagonisti nei Pesi Medi, ha dominato negli anni in cui nella categoria dei Welter – ma prima in altre 7 categorie diverse- c’era la leggenda della boxe, l’immenso MANNY PACQUIAO protagonista per 4 decadi che con il superlativo artista della difesa, FLOYD MAYWEATHER, hanno dominato il Ring.
Sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ nella graduatoria mondiale, è subito dopo le due grande icone, PACQUIAO E MAYWEATHER che hanno dominato la classifica mondiale di quegli anni, e certo il botteghino. Considero i Pesi Massimi, una categoria a parte, non paragonabile ai pesi più piccoli. Comunque quegli anni I Pesi Massimi erano dominati dai F.lli Klitschko, VITALI e WLADIMIR. Insomma annate eccezionali!
SERGIO MARTINEZ figlio dell’Argentina più povera, più periferica, trasferito in Spagna, ha sgretolato ogni inglese che ha incontrato, negli USA ha subito verdetti ingiusti, e finalmente imponendosi sul Ring del Cesar Palace di Atlantic City con un KO d’artista che lo incorona Re del Ring del 2010. Ritengo quel KO, tra i migliori di tutti i tempi.
Poi altri match, altre sfide, ma le sue gambe diventavano sempre più deboli, bisognose di cure, era andata a trovarlo in quel di Madrid, la situazione sotto controllo medico che non voleva che continuasse a combattere, a fatica, e solo per supplica dello stesso MARTINEZ gli han concesso quell’ultimo match, perché quel purosangue non lo potevi fermare, la volontà era più forte del dolore.
Sapevo che avrebbe perso, e lo raggiungi in quell ultimo match del 2014 al Madison Square Garden, vs MIGUEL COTTO, Porto Rico. Veder consumare la fine di un’eroe del ring che con tanto orgoglio teneva la sua bandiera Argentina, perdere contro un avversario di stazza e di valore, si ma, ma decisamente inferiore.
Già perché sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ, detentore della Cintura WBC, WBO, e THE RING MAGAZINE, dei Pesi Medi, non poteva permettersi di affrontare GENNADY GGG GOLOVKIN, tanto temuto Peso Medio dalla mano pesante, direi la più pesante della categoria, degli ultimi 20/30 anni.
E non perché l’argentino lo ha evitato, semplicemente, e ne sono testimone, nessun matchmaker avrebbe osato considerare di mettere sul ring un cavallo zoppato dalle tante imprese, contro lo svettante puledro del Kazakistan, entrato decisamente dalla scena europea dove si era imposto su chiunque, con la più alta percentuale di KO di sempre.
E finalmente nel 2012 entrato negli USA, l’America, dopo metà carriera consumata in Germania, il suo sogno americano, di diventare star del ring, il grande kazako lo ha realizzato, coronato vs CANELO ALVAREZ nel 2017. Non è ovviamnto tutto qui…
In quel 2012 dunque GENNADY GGG GOLOVKIN è in ascesa temuto Peso Medio.
Sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ, Peso Medio in declino, dopo aver stravinto in una notte formidabile sul ring di Las Vegas contro il figlio della leggenda: JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ jr.
Taglio per ragioni di spazio e perché l’epica fantastica richiede più tempo. Ma è solo rinviata ormai sapete tutto della mia serie di docufilm.
Torno da sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ, l’alternativa a quel gran talento di GGG era MIGUEL COTTO, che tanto pubblico avrebbe assicurato al Madison Square Garden, già perché il declino di MARTINEZ era segnato, più che evidente tra i più appassionati, anche se sino all’ultimo han creduto in un miracolo… che non poteva succedere.
E quella notte del 7 giugno 2014, sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ arrivò sino al 10° round, dopo aver subito ben tre Knock Down nel 1°round, rialzatosi altrettanto tre volte, combattendo come un leone senza gambe…lui che in combattimento era così “maravilloso” così atletico…al 9°round viene contato dall’arbitro.
Al 10° round il suo angolo, quel formidabile maestro GABRIEL SARMIENTO- o meglio chi per lui- ferma il match.
É tanto di più il grande viaggio nella Boxe di sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ, che il 21 febbraio prossimo compie 49 anni e a settembre sarà incluso nell’Hall Of Fame di Atlantic City. Intensità di vita e io c’ero in quel tratto, in quel pezzo di storia.
No, non fu MIGUEL COTTO a mettere fine alla carriera di SERGIO MARTINEZ, ma le sue stesse gambe.
Qua il 20 novembre, 2010, sul Ring di Atlantic City, sexy-SERGIO MARTINEZ s’impone con tanto invisibile quanto potente KO sull’americano PAUL WILLIAMS. É il KO dell’anno 2010! Ero lì. Non c’era altro modo per ribaltare il verdetto dei giudici che l’anno prima gli avevano sottratto la vincita.
