Il WBC si attiva per la pace

“Con il cuore pesante, il World Boxing Council (WBC) con il mondo assiste al terribile scoppio della guerra, con un attacco delle forze russe contro il paese dell’Ucraina. Assistiamo a questa morte e distruzione con orrore.
Nell’interesse della pace, il WBC, in quanto organo di governo mondiale nel nostro sport, ha votato in conformità con la nostra storia e coscienza per rimuovere la sanzione di qualsiasi match con l’organo WBC in Russia, fino a quando e a meno che questo conflitto non sia risolto in accordo accettbile. Il WBC ha avviato discussioni aperte con altre organizzazioni sanzionatorie e tutti i membri dell’industria della boxe per lavorare per la pace.
Condanniamo questa guerra nei termini più forti, chiediamo la pace nella regione e, dopo un’attenta deliberazione, ci impegniamo a intraprendere questa azione a sostegno delle nostre parole.
Decenni fa, il WBC è stata la prima organizzazione sportiva mondiale a ritirare il riconoscimento degli sport nell’apartheid in Sud Africa e dobbiamo mantenere il nostro impegno per i diritti umani per tutte le persone e rifiutare qualsiasi atto di discriminazione e abuso di potere.
Dimostrando tale impegno per la pace e i diritti umani, il Consiglio dei governatori del WBC ha convenuto – come abbiamo fatto con l’apartheid in Sud Africa – che il WBC non riconoscerà né sanzionerà alcuna attività di boxe in Russia fino a nuovo avviso, e il ripristino della pace e la conservazione dei diritti umani in Ucraina.
Non cerchiamo di punire il popolo russo, con il quale abbiamo e manterremo sempre la più stretta amicizia e fratellanza nell’unità per la pace.
Estendiamo i nostri sentimenti alla comunità di pugilato della Russia, pugili, allenatori, promotori e funzionari del ring, non sono politici, ma sono i grandi sostenitori del nostro sport in Russia e oltre.
Ci uniamo uniti per il nostro sport e l’uno per l’altro per stabilire continue attivazioni e campagne di pace.
Non possiamo restare a guardare e vedere così tanti soffrire.
Il WBC – Consiglio Mondiale di Pugilato- sostiene e prega per il popolo ucraino, così come per la gente comune della Russia, nell’attesa di una riconciliazione immediata e della fine di questa guerra.
Possa Dio darci la guida di cui abbiamo bisogno per restituire pace e unità a tutte le persone.”

The WBC takes action for Peace
Mexico City- February 25th, 2022
With heavy hearts, the World Boxing Council (WBC) with the world witnesses the terrible outbreak of war, with an attack by Russian forces against the country of Ukraine. We witness this death and destruction with horror.
In the interest of peace, the WBC, as a World’s governing body in our sport, has voted in accordance with our history and conscience to remove the sanction of any and all WBC boxing in Russia until and unless this conflict is resolved in an agreeable manner.
The WBC has been in open discussions with other sanctioning organizations and all members of the boxing industry to work towards peace.
We condemn this war in the strongest terms, demand peace in the region, and after careful deliberation is committed to taking this action to back up our words as well.
Decades ago, the WBC was the first world sports organization to withdraw recognition of sports in apartheid South Africa, and we must keep our commitment to human rights for all people and reject any act of discrimination and abuse of power.
Demonstrating that commitment to peace and human rights, the WBC Board of Governors has agreed – as we did with apartheid South Africa – that the WBC will not recognize or sanction any boxing activities within Russia until further notice, and the re-establishment of peace and the preservation of human rights in Ukraine.
We do not seek to punish the Russian people, with whom we have and will always maintain the closest of friendship and brotherhood in unity for peace.
We extend our feelings to the boxing Community of Russia, boxers, trainers, promoters, and ring officials, they are not political, but are great supporters of our sport within Russia and beyond.
We join in unity for our sport and for each other to establish continuous peace activations and campaigns.
We cannot stand by and see so many suffer.
The WBC stands with and prays for the people of Ukraine, as well as the ordinary people of Russia, in looking forward to an immediate reconciliation, and an end to this war.
May God give us the guidance we need to return peace and unity for all people.”
