Amici cari e conoscenti vi aspetto Il 2 novembre 2019 ore 11:30 al bellissimo Cimitero Monumentale, straordinario museo all’aperto, c’è l’iscrizione al FAMEDIO di MILANO del nostro grande Campione di Boxe GIANCARLO GARBELLI, tra gli Illustri che hanno reso grande la nostra Milano.
Patrimonio dell’Umanità, non solo dello Sport.
Il 16 marzo 2013, si è spento mio padre Giancarlo “ Il Fighter d’Italia” Garbelli, circondato da tutti noi suoi cinque figli, Carlo, io Gianna, Alberto, Caterina e Gabriele, i nipotini e la seconda moglie, i tanti carissimi amici e conoscenti. Un tumore al fegato, per via dell’epatite C, lo ha consumato in tre settimane.
Nato a Milano 4 ottobre 1931.

E io Gianna che il pugilato l’ho masticato sin da bambina, non mi è difficile confermare che è stato il più coraggioso, il più temuto, il più brillante, il più generoso, intelligente, impavido potente campione di pugilato che l’Italia abbia mai avuto.
Hai entusiasmato l’Italia dei migliori anni della boxe, nel dopoguerra dal 1952-1963. Striminzito nei Pesi Leggeri, naturale Peso Welter e poi formidabile, Peso Medio. Il tuo record di 99 match, 74 vinti, 26 per KO, 11 pari. MAI hai subito un KO! Un record impossibile ai giorni nostri.
Il record, per quanto può essere importante nel pugilato dove conta davvero tanto la storia, significa solo una cosa incredibile, in undici anni hai combattuto nei migliori ring almeno una volta al mese, 10, 12, 15 round! Tu li hai sfidati tutti, da valoroso. Tutti dall’inizio alla fine.
Giancarlo Garbelli voleva solo i migliori, questo era il suo mantra!
Nessuno voleva rischiare il titolo con te. Ma chi possedeva il titolo tu li hai battuti e vinti. Le borse del resto erano consistenti per non far caso al titolo in palio o meno. Di per sé il malloppo del contratto, qualifica l’importanza, la caratura del match e quindi dell’avversario.
Tra i tanti incontri, quel match “alla morte” vs Laszlo Papp, contro il molosso ungherese che hai piegato più volte; quell’icona di unì epoca cupa, quella della Cortina di Ferro che si è frantumata come qualsiasi regime non doveva e non deve esistere, quella sfida per la libertà che uno sport così di sofferenza come la Boxe ti ha dato la Gloria, più di un titolo mondiale.
Il WBC- Consiglio Mondiale di Pugilato- ti ha riconosciuto nel 2012, la cintura di Titolo Mondiale ad “honorem” quale più grande campione italiano di sempre, trai grandi nel mondo. Del resto quando hai terminato la carriera nel 1963 il Consiglio Mondiale era appena nato.
Ma la storia della boxe ha secoli di storia, ne abbiamo testimonianza dall’Eneide di Virgilio e da quel meraviglioso Pugile a Riposo, scultura dell’antica Grecia in bronzo conservata al Museo Romano e che tanto ti somiglia…

Tra le tue intense riflessioni: “Gli uomini buoni, sono i più feroci. Quelli che fanno i duri non valgono niente”.
Del tuo coraggio dicevi: Il Coraggio non nasce dalla Paura, ma dalla Fede! Crederci.
Sei stato anche profetico: “Una nazione che non riconosce il Sacrificio del Pugilato… è una nazione in decadenza!”. Forse chi governa ti ha ascoltato.
E finalmente la tua Milano ti ha riconosciuto, tra gli illustri che hanno contribuito alla crescita di questa fantastica, operosa, adrenalinica, entusiasmante, bellissima nostra città, “el grand Milan”.
Numero uno in Italia, Milano capitale tra le capitali nel mondo, come del resto sei stato tu, il nostro più grande campione italiano di sempre tra i grandissimi nel mondo.
Da Milano, da qui sei partito e profuso il tuo talento, arrampicandoti da giovane dilettante sino a superbo professionista e poi via per i ring del mondo, ovunque hai imbastito trame ardite, coraggiose e puntualmente vincenti, contribuendo a far diventare Milano capitale della Grande Boxe.
A testa alta, finalmente oggi sei celebrato nel Pantheon della tua città che ti ha visto nascere, crescere, diventare grande e che raccoglie i migliori e li consacra tra gli Illustri di ogni arte e mestiere.

Lo Sport della boxe chiamata anche Nobile Arte perché ci sono i valori senza i quali nessun atleta può dirsi tale se non li fa suoi. Detta anche Arte della Disciplina, senza la quale il talento da solo non riesce ad esprimersi a così alti valori competitivi.
Già il tuo pensiero profondo e filosofico esprime deduzioni alte: “Il Pugilato è violento ma la violenza non è Pugilato”. Fa riflettere anche i più scettici pregiudizi.
La tua eredità: Il Pugilato è metafora di vita, niente è grande senza la passione. Comprende, talento, volontà, coraggio, forza, potenza, intelligenza, si può si deve osare, autostima, dai tutto te stesso, determinazione, amica solitudine, fair-play, spiritualità, aspettati il meglio…e il peggio, disciplina, concentrazione, generosità, adattabilità, non mollare mai, lavoro, traguardo, rispetto, umiltà, accetta le sfide …o sei una sega!

Ci saranno le Olimpiadi invernali, Milano-Cortina 2026, e anche Milano gestirà il grande evento, non poteva mancare questo importante riconoscimento a te Giancarlo Garbelli uomo di Sport tra i valorosi della grande Milano.
Grazie Papà per aver scolpito il tuo nome nella storia del Pugilato Mondiale.
Già riconosciuto Patrimonio dell’Umanità dello Sport, ora sei anche Illustre della tua Milano.
Che orgoglio per lo Sport! É grande il contributo alla cultura sportiva.
E così anche per tutti noi tuoi cari, e che orgoglio per Milano, per la nostra città, “Milan e poeu pù”.
Per l’Italia da te tanto amata, perché tu così immenso sportivo, estremo combattente professionista, hai portato sulle spalle e nel cuore, l’onere e l’onore della bandiera in tutto il mondo e dicevi: “Italia io muoio se serve, per te”.

On 16 March 2013, my Father Giancarlo “Il Fighter d’ Italia” Garbelli died, surrounded by all of us his five sons and daughters, Carlo, I Gianna, Alberto, Caterina, and Gabriele, the grandchildren, and the second wife, the many dear friends, and acquaintances. A liver tumor, due to hepatitis C, consumed him in three weeks.
Born in Milan on 4th October 1931.
